Root + Bone is a free quarterly food magazine distributed in the UK. They wanted something as juicy to feature on their pages. Shop artist Nearly Normal came up with the idea to create a spread inviting readers to cut and fold their own papercraft fruit, giving them the chance to have a pineapple that would last all year round.

This free project by shop artist William Dalebout started out as a more conventional alternative Movie poster for Jodorowsky’s Dune,
but it took on a life of its own.

We find people who inattentively throw their cigarette butts on the street very annoying. Shop Artist Nearly Normal did something about it. He made huge cigarette butts and spread them on the streets of London in order to make people aware of the pollution that is caused by this dirty habit. On this video you can see how people responded on his little (thought-provoking) experiment.
According to Stichting KijkOnderzoek, the 12th and final episode of ‘Het Geheime Dagboek van Hendrik Groen’ – aired on January 9th on Omroep MAX – attracted over 2 million viewers to the late evening of NPO1. It is the most viewed episode of the first season of Hendrik Groen.
So far the show’s record stood at a mind boggling 1,941 million viewers during the 8th episode of the series. On average the first season has attracted 1.7 million viewers, which happens to be a considerable achievement for a TV show that is broadcasted late at night.
Shop Around is super proud to have been part of the successful TV show and want to congratulate director Tim Oliehoek with this huge achievement. We also want thank him for choosing us to create the leader for this great TV show. Attached you’ll find some studies of actor Kees Hulst as Hendrik Groen, that were made for the show’s leader by Shop artist Eric Ezendam. You can watch the leader here.

Shop artist Xaviera Altena creates illustrations for the prestigious Joke Smit Prijs 2017!
Together with Pip, Shop artists Maki wrote and illustrated a fantastic new children’s (vacation) book. It is called: ‘Het enige boek in je koffer’ (translation: ‘The only book in your suitcase’, but it also means: ‘The lovely book in your suitcase’).
In order to promote it they’ve made a fantastic book trailer, featuring their adorable daughter Kiki.
No worries, if you don’t speak Dutch. You can still enjoy the fantastic illustrations and tiny animations by Maki.
The book is available online and through children’s book stores all over Holland.

Recently the news broke that a rather unknown Dutch artist was added to the line-up of the PinkPop festival. His name is Charl. Due to his performances at 3FM and the popular TV show DWDD Charl rapidly came to the attention of the Dutch public.
Shop Around was approached to design the artwork for his first release. Which of course were happy to do. The CD and vinyl of Charl’s debut is available at record stores in the Netherlands an Belgium. And of course via I-tunes.
Last friday we’ve celebrated the launch of our first publication: the ‘Vinylize!’ book. For this book Shop Around asked 45 contemporary (international) artists to choose a classic or wellknown record sleeve in order to give it a complete new creative look. Artists involved are (a.o.) William Dalebout (USA), Olla Boku (Taiwan), Zutto (Russia), Kia (Italy) Richard Simonse (Poland), Jonathan Ball, Jaime Kiss (UK), Mark Verhaagen (Germany) and from the Netherlands Typex, Luuk Bode, Wouter Tulp and many more. The preface was written by Golden Earring singer Barry Hay.
Officially the book will go on sale on April 22 (Record Store Day). Dutch record distributor ‘Bertus’ will distribute the book, which basically means that every record store in the Netherlands should be able to sell you the book. In case your local record store didn’t stock the book (yet), they can order it for you.
You obviously can also buy the book at the shops of Concerto (who co-produced the book with us) and online (also for customers outside The Netherlands) via the Concerto website: https://www.platomania.nl/album/4894617/vinylize/various
All re-created record sleeves are currently on display in Concerto Amsterdam. The sleeves will be auctioned on Mai 19th at Concerto. Proceeds will go to the ‘Ocean Clean Up Project’.
An exhibition of classic album art, revisited by contemporary artists.
Creative production agency Shop Around asked forty-five artists to select their favorite album cover, and use it as a canvas for the upcoming exhibition VINYLIZE!. More than fifty record sleeves from artists such as Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Kraftwerk, Jimi Hendrix, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and Blondie (just to name a few) received a ‘VINYLIZE makeover, making it a completely new piece of art.
The sleeves will be exhibited at Concerto, the largest record store of the Netherlands. The project is supported by Record Store Day. At the end of the exhibition all sleeves will be auctioned. The proceeds will go to ‘The Ocean Clean Up’ a foundation that is dedicated to clean up the garbage in the ocean.
Especially for Record Store Day, Concerto and Shop Around have compiled a book with all the highlights of this exhibition. The proceeds from this book will also go to ‘The Ocean Clean Up’ project.
Participating artists are (a.o):
William Dalebout (USA), Olla Boku (Taiwan), Eric Ezendam (France), Jonathan Ball, Nearly Normal (UK), Luuk Bode, Dumboh, Typex, Loulou (& Tummie), Mals, Wouter Tulp, Dadara, Lamelos (NL) and many, many others (a complete list of all the participating artists will follow shortly).

On friday, december 16th, the Dutch indie favorites Indian Askin will present their new single’Crazy’ at the Paradiso Vinyl Club! We’re delighted that also this time the band approached us to design the artwork. The concept and design was again by our very own Bert & Marjorie, while Shop artist Niels Kalk created the wonderful weird collage illustration on the front and the label. The 7″ is available on (limited edition) white vinyl.
As you can see the band is very happy with the result. And without being modest, we are too!
